Back in 2019 we decided the time was right for The Wedding Room to introduce a new label to our collection. We are lucky to already have two amazing designers in Stella York and Lillian West which our brides adore, but we wanted a fresh addition and we kept coming back to the gorgeous Modeca collection, we loved so many of the designs and knew our brides would too.
We contacted the lovely Tony and Claire who work with Modeca in the UK and they very kindly sent us a small selection to preview over a weekend and we were both so impressed. Superb quality, stunning detailing and the fit was amazing. Excitedly, we accepted an invitation to view the next collection in Amsterdam early March 2020.
As March 2020 approached the beginnings of the pandemic were showing in Europe but not enough for events to start to cancel so off we went. The event was amazing, we fell in love with so many of the dresses from both past and current seasons and after the catwalk shows, browsing the showroom and chatting to other boutiques we began our usual process of whittling down our favourites to choose a capsule collection that Mary and I knew were right for our brides. We left excited for the future of Modeca at The Wedding Room, then the pandemic hit.
On March 26th 2020 the UK went into lockdown and like most businesses, we had to close our doors.
During lockdown I was furloughed and Mary was working hard behind the scenes, contacting brides and ensuring our diary was up to date with the change of wedding dates. Taking deliveries of new dresses and arranging postponed brides dresses to be boxed and stored correctly. We launched our ‘Local Hero’ competition to give a dress away to a key worker which was was won by Paula who married last month ( more about that in our next blog ) and sending the ‘seeds of love’ to the brides who had had to cancel their weddings to let them know we were thinking of them.
It was a challenging time of being open, then closed, open again. Until April 2021 when we opened our door again for good.
From April 12th we are so grateful to have been exceptionally busy, it has been emotional listening to our brides stories of how they have had to alter their plans. We have welcomed so many new brides to ‘Team Wedding Room’ and it has reminded us just how much we love our jobs. With this positivity, we decided to revisit Modeca and in June were invited to Harrogate to meet with Tony and Claire again and to finally choose our dresses and we couldn’t be more excited.
